After being honored to paint the new World Record Brown Trout caught in MI 9/9/09, (See Sept Field & Stream cover) I'm trying to learn trout fishing. Its been a disaster with a fly rod. I caught my butt so many times I'm removing the barbs on fly hooks.

I have nothing against having fish for dinner but I support catch-and-release if the freezer is full or if the fish is a potential trophy that will likely live to fight another day. That is why I got into painting the exact size from a photo. I add a brass trophy plate with the angler's name, and fish specs and try to do it for much less than cost of Texidermy. The result is hopefully beautiful art that will not end up in a garage sale, a happy fish and fisherman.

Surf fishing in NC, Florida, and Gulf of Mexico, Inshore and offshore Atlantic, Florida Keys,Inland lakes particularly Santee Cooper and Lake of the Ozarks. For big cats, the Mississippi River.

Penn Reels for salt, Garcia for fresh, live bait in freahwater and salt.(castnet fresh) Never use previously frozen bait, even for catfish. Prefer Top water plugs for largemouth, Striper Swiper with jig behind for striped bass.
