Just got back from a weekend trip just south of the boarder from SanDiego.. Had a great time and did not feel scared at all, in fact feltvery safe and everyone down there want you to have a good time...

Headedout Friday afternoon from San Diego and crossed the boarded at TJ,headed down the toll road to Ensenanda and past that to a little townoff Hwy 1 call Endira to a small Fish Camp called Castro's.. (This isOld Mexico Style) My fishing Buddy and I could not find anyone else whowas willing to go so Daryl brough his 2 daughters abd a one of thierfriends, (3 teenage Girls). They all have been there before and loveit.. It took us 4 and 1/2 hours to get there with a few pit-stops forthe kids. The rood was good but a few spots where under repair (makingit better, improvements in Baja?) but still not bad. The camp isrustice abut clean and comfortable. I don't want to fool you, it is onestep up from camping.. But if you take what you need and know what yourgetting it is fun.

Day one was a little off, the swell hadbeen very high for the last 2 days and really turn the water over. Thewater was a liitle green in close and the conditaions were not right. We saw some Yellotail and managed to scratch out about 7 Rock Cod andsome good size Cuda's but no White Sea Bass and no Yellowtails. Thekids could not handle the bordum so we called it a day around 2pm.Trolled on the way back in but no takers.

Day 2 started outbetter with us being the first boat to launch with Oscar as our capt. The best on of the fleet down there. Got out in the gray light and overcast morning made it perfect and the water had a better look to it.Headed down south and pulled in to a secret spot and game was on...Bait balls all around, bird crashing and macks getting hooked up. Keepa few big one for cut bait and hooked the small ones back on theKrocadilla Chrome jigs, for better action. Soon the White Sea Bass(WSB) came in chasing every cast, 2 to 4 at a time. The kids we hadthem just drop the lines over the side and jig. Well soon all of uswhere getting bite, most came off but in the excitement the capt. endedup with a 40+lb and 2 of the yung ladies managed to but 2 on the boat.Nickie with a 50+ and Natilie with a 15lb. So in 15 min. we had 3 WSBon the boat and still more around the boat. We landed a couple of goodsize Cudas and lost many more. The WSB showed a few more times butcould not get them to the boat. Faught some great battles but no winneron our side.

End the day around noon so we could pack and head north to the board before dark.

Onthe way back, traffic was heavy just outside Ensenada on the toll road, may a choice to take a different road. Found the road to Tecate #3 andwas very surprized with what we found.. The road was in great shape infact very new in many areas. The area seemed to be very popular andsafe. Many winery's in the area and nice small towns. Services wherespaced out, but still only 98 KM to the boarder from Ensenada. Theboarder check was smaller but much nicer than TJ or Otay. The linemoved a lot faster and you are not mobbed with vendors or others.. Onewarning is that Tecate is not 24 hour crossing - Closes at 11PM andopens at 5AM..

Plus you will need to add 25 miles to San Diego, but you are in the US and the time we saved I think was worth it..

I will post photos later..

Don't feel scared to go south, had a great time with good people and the deals are to be had.. They want you back..
Itwas sad to hear that only 4 boats on a Sunday and 1-2 boats a day ifthat during the week.. All it can mean is better fishing for those ofus who make the trip..
